Tonya Harding, a retired American skater who was the winner of two US Championships, in 1991 and 1994. The beginning of her skating career came in 1989 when she took first place in the Skate America competition. Tonya quit skating after the controversy in 1994. Then she turned her focus on boxing. Tonya started professional boxing in 2003. After she began performing on TV shows and in movies, the popularity of Tonya increased. The incident in 1994 when Tonya Kerrigan's competitor Nancy Kerrigan, was attacked mysteriously just before the "National Championship" was the catalyst for her becoming an international celebrity. Her story as well as her accomplishments have been featured in numerous academic assessments and in 2017 the biopic, titled "I, Tonya' was released.
